College Tennis

College tennis might not be the word on the street when it comes to college sports, but there are many junior tennis players that dream of the college tennis opportunity. Some kids practice really hard everyday with the idea of becoming professionals or being the best they can be, but for some out there, the ultimate goal is to get a full athletic scholarship to go to college in America.

I remember when I was trying to get my tennis scholarship, VHS was still alive and we were not all aware of the advantages of YouTube. Coaches don't always have scholarships available, so starting your search ahead of time is vital, and so it is keeping your mind open to different schools.

Be realistic of who you are as a tennis player. Do your homework as far as the different tennis conferences there are, is your level suited for Division I or Division II?

These are a few tips to start your search:

Network with people that are currently playing college tennis, or that had done it in the past. They could be really helpful if there was to be an opening on their team!
Write a list of your recent tennis activity. Some of your highlights, your style of play. Doubles will score you some bonus points. Explore the option of using YouTube to post a small video playing tennis. A lot of coaches check it regularly and it has really become one of the quickest and affordable ways to show your skills to coaches out there.

Don't write an essay on how bad you want a scholarship, or how much you need one. Remember something is expected of you as well. So almost like you are applying for a job, like you are selling yourself, make sure you express how you will be an asset for the team.
Follow up and make sure you keep up-to-date with the team results.
If you are a foreign tennis player, inform yourself about all the paperwork requirements, don't leave things to last minute, find out about SAT and TOEFL scores required for you to be admitted in each school you applied. Not all schools have the same test requirements.
Arrange a visit to different schools if you have the time. It is a great way to see the town, meet the team and picture ahead!

THE FUNDAMENTALS OF TENNIS

I trust this initial effort of mine in the world of letters will find a place among both novices and experts in the tennis world. I am striving to interest the student of the game by a somewhat prolonged discussion of match play, which I trust will shed a new light on the game.

May I turn to the novice at my opening and speak of certain matters which are second nature to the skilled player?

The best tennis equipment is not too good for the beginner who seeks really to succeed. It is a saving in the end, as good quality material so far outlasts poor.

Always dress in tennis clothes when engaging in tennis. The question of choosing a racquet is a much more serious matter. I do not advocate forcing a certain racquet upon any player. All the standard makes are excellent. It is in weight, balance, and size of handle that the real value of a racquet frame depends, while good stringing is, essential to obtain the best results.

After you have acquired your racquet, make a firm resolve to use good tennis balls, as a regular bounce is a great aid to advancement, while a "dead" ball is no practice at all.

If you really desire to succeed at the game and advance rapidly, I strongly urge you to see all the good tennis you can. Study the play of the leading players and strive to copy their strokes. Read all the tennis instruction books you can find. They are a great assistance.

More tennis can be learned off the court, in the study of theory, and in watching the best players in action, than can ever be learned in actual play. I do not mean miss opportunities to play. Far from it. Play whenever possible, but strive when playing to put in practice the theories you have read or the strokes you have watched.

Never be discouraged at slow progress. The trick over some stroke you have worked over for weeks unsuccessfully will suddenly come to you when least expected. Tennis players are the product of hard work. Very few are born geniuses at the game.

Tennis is a game that pays you dividends all your life. A tennis racquet is a letter of introduction in any town. The brotherhood of the game is universal, for none but a good sportsman can succeed in the game for any lengthy period. Tennis provides relaxation, excitement, exercise, and pure enjoyment to the man who is tied hard and fast to his business until late afternoon. Age is not a drawback. The tennis players of the world wrote a magnificent page in the history of the World War. No branch of sport sent more men to the colours from every country in the world than tennis, and these men returned with glory or paid the supreme sacrifice on the field of honour.

The following order of development produces the quickest and most lasting results:

1. Concentration on the game.

2. Keep the eye on the ball.

3. Foot-work and weight-control.

4. Strokes.

5. Court position.

6. Court generalship or match play.

7. Tennis psychology.

Tennis is played primarily with the mind. The most perfect racquet technique in the world will not suffice if the directing mind is wandering. There are many causes of a wandering mind in a tennis match. The chief one is lack of interest in the game. No one should play tennis with an idea of real success unless he cares sufficiently about the game to be willing to do the drudgery necessary in learning the game correctly. Give it up at once unless you are willing to work. Conditions of play or the noises in the gallery often confuse and bewilder experienced match-players playing under new surroundings. Complete concentration on the matter in hand is the only cure for a wandering mind, and the sooner the lesson is learned the more rapid the improvement of the player.

The surest way to hold a match in mind is to play for every set, every game in the set, every point in the game and, finally, every shot in the point. A set is merely a conglomeration of made and missed shots, and the man who does not miss is the ultimate victor.

Where Can You Find Cheap Used Cars For Sale?

Finding cheap used cars for sale can be a bit of a hassle if you do not know where to look. There are quite a few places you could search to find one but would you believe that you could actually get access to cars selling for $100?

Some of the common routes most people take to find cheap used cars for sale are eBay, car dealerships and cars for sale by owner. Fortunately, a new way has been discovered to purchase cheap quality cars and this way is known as government seized auto auctions.

Government seized auto auctions provide a countless variety of vehicles that are up to 95% off Blue Book value. It may sound too good to be true, not to mention the fact that most of these cars have a clean title with low mileage. By now, you may be wondering if this is legal and how you can get your hands on one of these cars. Well, if you continue reading, I will explain.

First off, government seized auto auctions are perfectly legal and these events take place for a few reasons. People who previously owned the vehicles that are up for auction may have possibly either committed a crime or were in too much debt and could not afford to maintain their vehicle.

The government, police or IRS then came in and repossessed their vehicle since there was not anyone to properly claim or take care of the vehicle afterward. There are a few other circumstances which can result in car repossession but most likely you are interested in obtaining these low-priced quality cars. So exactly how do you get your hands on one of these cheap used cars for sale?

All you have to do is check your local newspaper, magazine, or the internet in order to find local listings in your area. It would be best to visit an online site from the convenience of your home, especially since the internet provides all of the facts you need to know for the car you want.

Once you have the detailed information for the car you want, attend the auction prepared with a bidding price set in your mind so you do not go over your budget. Also make sure to bring your mechanic to ensure everything on the car is functioning well in case you are not very familiar with cars. Finding cheap used cars for sale could not be any easier these days.

Heavy Duty Tow Trucks

Owning a tow truck business can cost a ton of money because of the trucks that need to be purchased, the licenses that need to be acquired, and drivers that need to be hired. Heavy duty tow trucks are an important part of the industry because they are able to tow larger vehicles such as ambulances, fire trucks, box trucks, tractor trailers and other large vehicles that flatbed and winch trucks cannot tow because they are much smaller than those large vehicles.

Heavy duty trucks are the backbone of hundreds of towing companies across the country these days. Brand new ones, cost anywhere from $70,000-$85,000 to purchase because of their size and how much equipment is needed for it to be a successful piece of machinery in the field of towing. They are manufactured with a regular cab or a crew cab. A crew cab will cost you more because more material is needed for the two-three extra seats in the second row and it makes the front of the truck much bigger than a regular cab.

Tow trucks are needed all over the roads of the United States each day because of accidents, break downs, traffic stops, illegal parking and so much more. Police departments across the country, depending on the size of the city or town they protect, usually have one or two in their fleet of police vehicles. Police departments will use these trucks to remove illegally parked large vehicles from the streets, tow broken down fire trucks, and tow larger vehicles that have been involved in accidents when a towing company is not available to clear the roadway.

Heavy duty trucks have a winch system on the back of their truck but the vehicle they are towing is held further off the ground because the winch is higher on the body than a smaller truck. The vehicle being towed rests on two rubber mats at the bottom of the winch boom on the tow truck, leaving the rear wheels on the street for towing. Owning a heavy duty tow truck company can be very lucrative, especially if the business is located close to a major highway or a trucking base, giving the company more opportunities for towing large vehicles.

Fine Art Photography Explained

The term fine art photography is probably a new term but it is so often heard now that it is a category by itself under the art of photography. Some people may, of course, be confused by the term 'fine art' being combined with 'photography'. Since photography is an art form by itself, it is actually quite natural to combine it and come out with a fine art category.

Fine art, as we all know, is a form of art that showcases the artist's skills in his or her masterpieces. Now, in this type of photography, instead of using brush and paint and canvas, the artist uses modern equipment, the camera, to express his creativity and piece of art. Thus, the artist cum photographer creates a masterpiece using light, camera, lens and digital photo editing.

Yes, this category of photography doesn't merely mean the artist capturing pictures using his camera. Rather, the artist will capture images in a creative manner and further enhance his images using skillful photo editing. The image will be edited, or 'painted' using the computer, in such a way that it ended up as a beautiful piece of art instead of just a plain photograph.

Some photographers may scoff at this category of photographer artists and say that this group depends too much on the computer to 'save' their lousy photography skills. But let it be known that more often than not, the photographer is actually a very creative photographer who is able to capture creatively composed shots and then use his editing skills to further turn the images into works of art. The photographer is not merely relying on computer photo editing to save his 'lousy photos' but instead, he is using his artistic computer editing skill to further enhance and bring out the beauty of his work of art. It is rather similar to an artist who uses different colors to bring out his work of art.

Many people also tend to confuse an artistic photographer with a photographer who uses too much photo editing to enhance his photographs. To differentiate between photographers of different categories, you only need to look at his work. An artistic photographer will produce shots that are artistic, with depth and a composition that is similar to paintings while photographers of other categories, such as photojournalism or sports, will have a totally different style of composition, lighting and editing.

Nowadays, this special category photography can be applied to almost anything. If you want your pre-wedding photographs or even wedding day photographs to resemble that of an artistic masterpiece, all you need to do is to look for a skilled, creative fine art photographer to take gorgeous shots of you on your special day. You will not regret having such beautiful pictures of your wedding day or of you and your husband as photographs will last forever!

How Above Ground Pools Originated

The history of above ground pools dates back to World War II and Domain Industries. The U.S. Army was in the market for a way to seal cans containing food so foot soldiers would have something to eat from their packs when there was nothing else available. The canned food was referred to as K-rations. Domain Industries perfected a rubber seal and landed the contract to seal the cans.

Domain Industries renamed their product line that made the can seals during the war to Doughboy Plastics Division. The name was a reflection on the nickname given for the army soldier. This name change took place in 1947, when Domain Industries was entering the outdoor market for family entertainment. The primary products that Doughboy was making at the time were beach balls, toys, and small pools.

These early on ground pools were basically for small children, although Marty Hoffinger invented an above ground pool filter as early as 1945. The first pool built to use for swimming above ground was made of galvanized steel pipe, and it was manufactured by Domain Industries. In the years following WWII, swimming pools became a status symbol for many Americans, but most were the concrete variety and not many people owned them.

Doughboy Plastics eventually was renamed to Doughboy Recreational, and improvements were made to these pools through the years. No one was very interested in pools above ground until they were made more attractive and were constructed with a flat top ledge. The concept of a steel walled pool and a vinyl liner has remained popular for many years.

Marty Hoffinger eventually founded Hoffinger Industries, which purchased Doughboy in 1974. He expanded the company to become the largest A.G. pool manufacturer in the world. The Arkansas based Doughboy is housed in a 660,000 square foot complex that makes everything that goes into its pools in-house from raw materials. Hoffinger's belief was that the only way to control quality was by doing everything yourself.

Although Hoffinger died in 2010, Doughboy still operates much the same way as when he was running the show. It is doubtful that above ground pools would be as popular as they are if it hadn't been for his influence. That influence has led to improved standards for all manufacturers of above ground swimming pools and resulted in better products for consumers.

Above ground pools are very popular and affordable, and their history dates back to the dawn of the personal swimming pool.

David W. Mispilkin has been in the above ground pool installation business for the past 15 years. His experience includes, but not limited to above ground pool and liner sales, repairs, and installations. Over the years, David has installed thousands of above ground pools and liners from various manufacturers and has expertly installed moved and changed pools and liners.
